Coronavirus Cases in India Live updates (8 June 2022): Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded 2,701 new Covid-19 cases — the highest in nearly four months — of which, 1,765 patients were from Mumbai. The state had recorded 1,881 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, 81 per cent more than the previous day. Of this, 1,242 were detected in Mumbai, almost double the Monday’s count. Maharashtra also reported one case of B.A.5 variant on Tuesday.
An upward trend in new Covid-19 cases continued in India on Wednesday, with the country recording 5,233 new cases over the last 24 hours. With this, active cases rose to 28,857. Daily coronavirus infections in India were recorded above 5,000 after 93 days taking the total tally of Covid-19 cases to 4,31,90,282.
In other news, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Wednesday issued new Covid-19 rules for airports and aircraft, making masks mandatory throughout the journey and allowing mask removal only under exceptional circumstances. In line with a Delhi High Court order, the aviation regulator also said that violators may be treated as ‘unruly passengers’. According to the order, if passengers repeatedly refuse to wear masks and do not follow Covid protocols, they will be deboarded or treated as “unruly”. At airports, the violators be fined and handed over to security agencies.
