Pulwama, Jun 28: Residents of Urchersoo area in Pulwama are up in arms against PHE department for failing to provide them drinking water facility to the area.
The residents of area told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that they don’t have any potable water facility in the area due to which they have been suffering for decades.
In absence of any drinking water facility, they are forced to drink contaminated water of the canal and there is an apprehension of water borne diseases, said Irshad Ahmad Shah, a local resident.
He added that children and elderly people often remain ill and the reason behind it is contaminated water.
“One has to walk about a kilometre to bring water from a spring,” locals said adding nothing has happened to their repeated pleas before the concerned departments.
An official of Jal Jeevan Mission Pulwama said that there was a scheme for the area which got defunct due to construction of Newa road.
He said that new scheme for the area has been approved and the tenders have been floated—(KNO)
