Bharat Jodo Yatra resumes from Awantipora day after alleged security lapse

Mehbooba Mufti, her daughter Iltija, Priyanka Gandhi also join Yatra, Rahul stops at Lethpora, pays tributes to slain CRPF troopers

Srinagar, Jan 28: A day after Congress Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party alleged a security lapse, Bharat Jodo Yatra resumed on Saturday from Awantipora area of south Kashmir Pulwama district amid tight security arrangements.

Quoting an official news agency KNO reported that the Yatra resumed from the Chersoo area of Awantipora today morning.

He said former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, her daughter Iltija Mufti and mother also joined the Yatra at Awantipora.

Rahul Gandhi’s sister and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi along with other Congress leaders joined the Yatra near Lethpora.

Meanwhile, a party insider said that Yatra will end at Pantha Chowk truck yard today and will resume tomorrow from the same spot.

Officials said tight security arrangements have been put in place to ensure hassle free movement of the Yatra.

On Friday Rahul Gandhi and other senior Congress leaders alleged a security lapse in Qazigund area, the claim denied by the Police.

Meanwhile, (AICC) launched the theme song of Bharat Jodo Yatra (BJY) in Kashmiri language in Srinagar.

As per news agency KNO the theme song of the Yatra in Kashmiri language was launched during a press conference at PCC headquarters in Srinagar.

Congress General Secretary Incharge Communication Jairam Ramesh said the theme song has been launched in nine languages so far.

Congress leader and Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi who is in the last leg of Bharat Jodo Yatra in Kashmir on Saturday paid tributes to CRPF jawans killed in Lethpora attack in 2019.

An official said that Gandhi, who resumed his Yatra today from Awantipora, stopped his Yatra for a while at Lethpora and laid a flower bouquet at the spot where over 40 CRPF jawans were killed in a militant attack.

Gandhi resumed his Yatra today morning after a day’s halt due alleged security lapses in Qazigund area on Friday.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra, which started from Kanyakumari on September 7 will conclude in Srinagar on January 30 with Rahul Gandhi hoisting the national flag.
