3 car lifters held in Srinagar: Police

Three car lifters involved in lifting of seven cars in last 8 months from Hazratbal Dargah and then dismantle them into pieces have been arrested in Srinagar.

An official said that during last eight months some car lifters have stolen seven Maruti 800/wagon R vehicles during the Friday prayers and other religious occasions from Dargah Hazratbal.

In order to crack the said theft cases,a team was constituted by the SSP Srinagar comprising of SHO Nigeen,DO Hazratbal headed by SDPO Zakoora under the supervision of SP Hazratbal, he said, adding that the investigation team analysed various CCTV footages and finally arrested the three accused persons.

They have been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Dar@Irshad Ganderbal, Rameez Ahmad Ganie R/o Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Kanna R/ Sopore from whom all the 07 Maruti/wagon R vehicles of 07 FIRs have been recovered in scrapped form.

They have been breaking /dismantling the said stolen vehicles into scrap/ pieces immediately after committing the theft as a part of their modus operandi, he said.
